I never fail to be bewildered by the number of people who ask in GoPro and other online forums “what are the best settings for …”.
Up front, there is no such things as best settings. Every situation is different due to lighting, ambience, subject matter, distance, and of course audio.
It’s a bit like asking what are the best shoes to wear so I can learn to drive?
You need to understand the basics of photography and video in order to get the best imagery. These things include lighting, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, depth of field and more. Then there are subtleties such as the rule of 3rds to understand.
To help in this I have a whole bunch of tutorials that are only up to 5 minutes long and will help those trying to come to grips with these things – and they apply whether you are shooting on a smartphone, mirrorless, camcorder, dSLR or Box Brownie, trust me.

Finally, be aware that online platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and the like will NEVER make your videos look their best as the algorithms they use to minimise space and speed up delivery absolutely crush quality.
You also need to know that after you have initially uploaded, for a period of time, these platforms will only playback lo-res versions while they process your video in the background.
