As many know, and like many, I use DaVinci Resolve as my editor of choice for video (and with the latest beta 21, increasingly for still image manipulation too).
One of the big benefits is the multiple screen support, and better, to be able to have the entire timeline on one screen, and all other windows such as Toolbox, Media, Inspector etc, on the other.
It may not suit your workflow methodology, but fits mine perfectly.
Jog / Shuttle Control
However, even better, is the availability of the DaVinci Speed Editor which speeds up my editing immensely, particularly the use of the jog / shuttle wheel.
On this Broome trip, the addition of the Espresso tablet gives me the brilliant extra screen option in conjunction with my Gigabyte Aero 17” laptop, which, whist getting a bt long I the tooth (like me) still honks along quite nicely with Resolve and 4K footage.
But.
Having to use the cursor keys to move the timeline cursor is a right pain in the proverbial in comparison to the Speed Editor jog / shuttle wheel. Yeah I know there are hot keys, but it still isn’t the same.
I have used alternatives over the years, the main one being the Contour ShuttlePro model that I started out with Vegas Pro way back when. But none of these have the wonderful, smooth ball bearing action of the Speed Editor.
I also gave the Logitech Keypad and Dialpad a crack, but at the time, its drivers clashed badly with Resolve so I tucked it back in the drawer. It might be worth a revisit, but in truth, it is overkill for what I am suggesting.
Blackmagic Design do make a full size keyboard in addition to the Speed Editor, but something is needed for the keyboard warrior who does editing in the field.
(Did I just say, “keyboard warrior”? That deserves a self uppercut).
Something nice and portable that may also contain buttons for In and Out markers and say the F8 and another couple of options for adding to the timeline, plus uses and USB-C and / or Bluetooth.
What say you Mr Blackmagic Design aka Grant Petty)
