Once upon a time there was a thing called ‘analogue’. Yes, I know, hard to believe isn’t it. Even stranger though, is that with all the digital stuff we have, not to mention the IoT – that’s Internet of Things if you didn’t know – analogue still exists.
Incredible hey?
I have written before about the resurgence of ‘film’ in cameras, especially among the young ‘uns amongst us. But in that golden era of fillum last century, there was also a thing called ‘Polaroid’ that was almost magic in that you could take a photograph and a few minutes later it would appear as a snapshot out of the front of the camera.
Simple Operation
Fujifilm have remembered this marvel and bettered it with its instax line of cameras – which has been around since 1998 believe it or not. And the latest is the instax mini 13, that has just been announced and will available later this month.
The mini 13 offers simple operation—turn the lens to power on, frame your shot, and press the shutter button. A 2-second timer lets you take selfies by giving you time to prepare your expression and pose without worrying about camera shake when you press the shutter button.
Additionally, a new 10-second timer expands this by letting to experiment with poses, framing, and shooting distance by letting you set the camera down to capture full-body shots and more.
Fashion Statement

Fujifilm are suggesting the instax mini 13 could be seen as a fashion statement, and indeed, describe it as “featuring a pop-inspired design with a soft, rounded 3D form”. Adding to this thinking, the camera is available in five different pastel colours with names like Dreamy Purple, Candy Pink and Lagoon Green, along with a range of matching accessories such as camera cases, film albums and film.
The instax mini 13 is going to set you back $139 for the camera, with the case adding $25 and the film $20. There is of course an app available too letting you scan your analogue prints.
I have an instax mini 13 on the way for review, and I’ll give more details on its actual operation in the wild in the coming week or so.
