No, I don’t know where these product names come from either, but anyway, in this case the MVX2U Gen 2 is an XLR to USB-C interface that lets you use XLR based mics – which are far superior to other types – with such things as smartphone, tablets and computers, and upgrades from a previous model, which has the same name but is not surprisingly suffixed Gen 1.
The 100-gram unit delivers up to +60 dB of gain and 48 V phantom power and runs entirely off USB-C power with no batteries required. Onboard DSP borrowed from Shure’s MOTIV series handles auto-leveling, real-time noise reduction and plosive suppression at zero latency, with settings stored automatically so they persist across device switches and third-party apps.
It has certification for iPhone and iPad alongside Mac, Windows and Android support, and apparently they have made improvements to the noise floor, headphone amp and DAC over the original and it’s available now.
At USD$139 or close to AUD$200, it ain’t cheap, but if you have the need you can get it from VideoPro.
