Case Study: YouTube Channels Oishi and Kato’s Pizza Radio

Blackmagic Design workflow was used for live streaming for the YouTube channel Oishi and Kato’s Pizza Radio.

Streaming took place at Panda Studio Odaiba which has integrated many Blackmagic Design products, including ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO live production switcher, Blackmagic Videohub 40×40 12G router, Blackmagic Web Presenter HD streaming solution, HyperDeck Studio HD Mini broadcast deck, and Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 12G HDR monitor/recorder. A similar workflow was adopted for another popular YouTube channel Atagi and Yuyuta’s Otonari Radio.

Oishi and Kato’s Pizza Radio is an internet program hosted by popular anime singer Masayoshi Oishi and well known streamer Junichi Kato. Together they live stream once a month on YouTube and occasionally post various videos. The channel boasts 400,000 subscribers.

Oishi and Kato regularly use Blackmagic Design products for streaming in their studio, including ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, Video Assist, and UltraStudio Recorder 3G capture device. Their special werewolf game project Pizza Werewolf is immensely popular, consistently attracting more than 50,000 concurrent viewers and garnering more than a million views per episode. For larger scale streaming of this special project, they streamed from Studio 2 at Panda Studio Odaiba where numerous Blackmagic Design products are installed.

“Panda Studio has a wide range of Blackmagic Design equipment that we are familiar with, and it’s even coordinated by Panda Studio’s equipment rental, making equipment arrangement smooth. The support from the staff was also substantial. Furthermore, having large LED displays in the studio expands the range of production and allows differentiation from other programs,” said Hasegawa (first name to be confirmed), the producer of Oishi and Kato’s Pizza Radio.

Using the Blackmagic Videohub 40×40 12G as a hub, four cameras were employed with switching done through the ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO. A Blackmagic Web Presenter HD was used for the stream, a Video Assist 7” 12G HDR for monitoring, and switching output was recorded on the HyperDeck Studio HD Mini.

Atsushi Okajima, who was in charge of the operation, said: “It was our first time using the ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO switcher, but we’ve used Blackmagic Design switchers like the ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K before. Since the user interface is the same despite the model difference, the operation was very smooth.'”

Okajima continued: “I like that the ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO can output a multiview to an AUX output. Being able to output the multiview to various places allows everyone to check during setup and rehearsals. It’s convenient to switch quickly.”

Hasegawa also produces another YouTube channel that started in February, and Blackmagic Design products are being used for the show. In the new music program Atagi and Yuyuta, Otonari Radio, which features the popular band Awesome City Club’s vocalist/guitarist Atagi and popular pianist YouTuber Yuyuta Suzuki, filming is done with Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro and three Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K digital film cameras, as well as five iPhones using the Blackmagic Camera app. Switching is done with an ATEM Television Studio HD8 and recording with a HyperDeck Studio HD Plus and a Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 12G HDR.

“In Otonari Radio, the workflow from filming to streaming and recording can be completed efficiently with all Blackmagic Design products. We aim to make it a longlasting program,” Hasegawa concluded.
