A story I saw today on a website entitled “Why Young People Are Ditching Smartphones for Retro Technology” and it reminded me of a piece I wrote 18 months ago on somewhat the same subject.
That piece called “Film. It’s Cool Again” – you can read it here – detailed how younger people particularly have started using film cameras, as against their expensive smartphones, for taking photos.
And a conversation with my step-daughter just the other day also brought the subject up when she mentioned more basic smartphones were now seen as “in”.
Other tech we have become used to is also slowly coming out of favour with examples include using CDs or even vinyl records, instead of Spotify. Yay to that for me.
Apparently at least anecdotally, even paper maps seem to be coming back into vogue, instead of using GPS.
A few weeks back I wrote on the preference of a dedicated camcorder over a smartphone or dSLR for shooting video, so I hope this trend comes back too. Not that I want tape I have to say. That would be a step back too far.
