DJI Ban Helping GoPro?

GoPro v DJI Action

A recent report stated that “A contributor is the ban on competing Chinese brands such as DJI” when it comes to the rise (or fall) of GoPro in the US.

This is a bit of a furphy as it stands. You see, whilst DJI has involved the wrath of the US Government, with claims its drones send naughty information back to the Chinese Mothership, the ban only exists on NEW drones sold in the US, and does not affect the Action or OSMO cameras, or gimbals such as the Ronin at all at this stage.

GoPro unit sales have actually increased by A$1.5billion (albeit a decline in percentage over previous years), but this means diddly squat if the profit margins are higher, as they will be due to GoPro paring back some of the features in the latest model, the GoPro12 Black.

Some would suggest that DJI makes a superior product if putting current model cameras from each company side by side, especially with constant gripes about GoPros overheating.

However in my tests at Creative Content, overheating has not been an issue if functions on the GoPro that are not being used are turned off eg: Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS (in earlier models), the front screen, voice control etc.
