Well, they kept this quiet. And I still don’t know more than a bit of a teaser just emailed to me.
What I do know after a bit of digging is that DJI say the new gimbal has been designed to take advantage of the latest generation of lightweight mirrorless cameras and it can carry a maximum payload of 2kg (4.4lbs), and features a 1.4″ touchscreen along with wireless bluetooth control and the ability to shoot in both horizontal and vertical orientations.
And that mounting of the camera to the gimbal is via a new dual layered quick release plate which can be attached to the vertical arm to allow for vertical orientation shooting without any limitations placed on the gimbal movement.
I have also discovered a smartphone app can be used to access additional functionality allowing the following capabilities:-
- Timelapse: Add a timelapse to any video for an engaging opening or breathtaking transition.
- Track recording: Set the gimbal to move along up to 10 pre-set points for a dynamic video of any scene or environment.
- Panorama: Enhance the camera’s field of vision with a panoramic photo showing the whole scene in front of you.
I don’t have an Aussie price yet, but the UK price is £339 making it theoreticaly around AUD$800. But we’ll see.
I have been onto my DJI contact to get more info, pricing and availability, and will let you know as soon as I know. I will also hopefully get a review unit very soon. Be a good test for the Fujifilm cameras I have sitting here for review!
