When it started, LinkedIn was a useful place for job searching, finding courses for betterment, connecting to like-minded professional people and so on.
But now …
If it is not someone spruiking their latest book, video, podcast or website that can tell you that following their advice will guarantee instant success “just as I had”, then it is others suggesting they are “thought leaders” or “story tellers”. And you NEED to get in touch to warm to their wisdom.
(I always thought “stories” were made up things, as in “fairy stories”?)
The one thing that gets me though, is just how many people are constantly attending seminars, symposiums, events, trade shows, breakfasts, forums, round-tables and gawd knows what else.
And of course, they all have a jolly good time and come away with a-m-a-z-i-n-g results and insights, just in time to attend the next one.
Does anyone actually contribute to the company they work for these days, or do they just simply wave around their Uni degree, take home a fat salary, sponge of their employers, and gargle the PR wine and nosh on the canapes?
Until tomorrow, so they can do it all again.
