“I’ve got an arts degree, I’m not a scientist, I’m not a technological person.”
So said the person on ABC’s “Insiders” this morning when renewable energy was being discussed.
He then went on to suggest that we should wait before pushing ahead with long term plans for technologies like green hydrogen, wind and solar, as we didn’t know what new technologies might evolve that might be better or cheaper.
What a goose. He should stick to his arts methinks.
The sad thing is that I see this attitude almost daily in various tech forums.
An example that is common is with GoPro cameras. It is not uncommon for people to ask, “Should I buy the Model X or wait until they release Model Y?” Alternatively with drones, the same type of question is not uncommon; “Should I buy the Mini 4 or wait until the Mini 5?”
A derivative of either of these is asking if “anyone knows what “ABC company is putting in the next model Z and should I wait for it?”
If we all waited for the next model of whatever, we would never actually get anything, as, well, we’d be perpetually waiting for the next model.
With very few exceptions, current models of existing tech, especially stuff that has been around a while from reputable companies, is all very, very good. The next model may be better, but if the current one does what you want or need, why wait? It is quite possible whatever it is, any new features added may be more than you need anyway.
