Blackmagic Design today officially released DaVinci Resolve version 21 for Mac, Windows and LINUX. With it is a whole bunch of new features, and I have spent the afternoon playing with a few of them – and its impressive.
So, what is new in Resolve version 21?
Here’s the standouts:
New Features:
- Photo Page: A dedicated page for still image editing, allowing users to apply node-based grading and edit photos with Hollywood-grade colour tools.
- AI Tools: Seven new AI-powered features, including:
- IntelliSearch: Fast content searching for faces, objects, and dialogue keywords.
- CineFocus: Focal point adjustment for existing footage.
- Face Age Transformer: Age or de-age faces in video footage.
- Face Reshaper: Adjust facial features in tracked moving footage.
- Blemish Removal: Reduce acne, discoloration, and pores while preserving natural skin texture.
- UltraSharpen: High-fidelity sharpening for upscaled and slightly out-of-focus footage.
- Slate ID: Automatically reads clapperboard text and populates clip metadata.
- Fusion and Fairlight Updates:
- Krokodove Toolset: Over 70 new motion graphics tools for Fusion.
- Fairlight Folder Tracks: Simplified audio track management.
- Fairlight Animator Modifier: Analyses audio levels and drives animation parameters in Fusion.
Editing and Keyframing:
- Keyframing Improvements: New ease animation modes, four-point Bezier easing, and improved curve editing.
- MultiMaster Trim Passes: Grade a single timeline and generate separate HDR and SDR renders.
- Smart Bins: Dynamic folders that automatically populate based on user-defined rules.
Immersive and VR Workflows:
- Apple Immersive Video Compatibility: Support for foveated rendering and immersive video workflows.
- Meta Quest and YouTube VR Presets: Streamlined output for VR180 and VR360 content.
Other Improvements:
- Node Graph Management: Enhanced layer list node graph and node stack management.
- Color Page: Improved panel controls and colour management options.
