Hmm… I am awaiting some sort of confirmation, but it appears we may not only get the new DJI Pocket 4 in the near future, but also a surprise – a new Action Camera 6. More on the latter in a second as there is potentially a major technology step upward THAT one!
Pocket 4
The Pocket 4 is rumoured to come with a dual camera, that is twin lenses and sport a larger 1” sensor, which is very good news if true. And one thing I look forward to is a larger touch screen. I never got the chance to see the Pocket 3 for various reasons, but my own Pocket 2 suffers from the tiny 2cm or so screen which I think is just too tiny.
Well for these eyes anyway.
Also expected is 4K and 240fps for slo-mo and better tracking which will now (of course) be AI powered. If they have filtered down somehow the tracking system from their drone and gimbal technologies, this will be brilliant.
Action Camera 6
Now onto the Action Camera 6 and the BIG guess is that it will have a variable aperture from f/2.0 to f/4.0 giving better exposure control in both high and low light environments along with a much bigger sensor at 1/1.1 or even 1 inch. 8K recording is mooted along with 4K 120fps for slo-mo. Also guessed is 10 bit colour profiles and a wider dynamic range.
You can bet the stabilisation will have been beefed up too.
Now one thing the aperture options will mean is that the Action Camera 6 is no longer designed as a simple point and shoot beast. To get the best from it, you’ll need to learn some basic photography and videography such as depth of field, about exposure settings and so on. I have a bunch of quick 5 minute tutorials on that stuff here if you need a kick start.
There are no pricing details as yet but suggested launch dates may even be as soon as the end of November. I’ll keep digging!
