More audio goodness with RØDE / Blackmagic ATEM

An added bonus of the pairing of the RØDECaster Duo and the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro is getting access to all the processing built into the Duo in addition to the Fairlight tools available in the ATEM Software.

For example, with my own audio, I set both mic 1 (the Sennheiser MK4) and mic 2 (the Sennheiser XSW-D Lav) to have access to the “Big Bottom” and “Aural Exciter” APHOX processors, and tuned the Tune, Drive and Harmonics settings to tweak my voice and improve the overall quality.

Not being RØDE mics, there are no presets in the “Mic Locker” of the RØDECaster Duo, so I had to use the generic Condenser and Headset settings respectively, but I could change the dB level manually.

Channel 3 I have set to the audio out of the computer, primarily the feed from Spotify, but able to use whatever I want of course including Skype audio if use that facility for a phone in interview. Channel 4 is kept at the default Trigger Pad settings (with a number of effects set to specific mics) and finally, the Bluetooth virtual channel is assigned to my smartphone, also letting me do phone conversations via that medium if I desire.

All of these settings I can save in the RØDECaster Duo as a “show” and able to recall at any time.

The final mixed signal is sent from the RØDECaster Duo to the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro mic 2 input. And now when I start recording, I can use the Fairlight tools to further modify this signal.

Many of these tools and their usage might be outside the realm of the average person I admit, but if you do get the time to learn what they actually do, and are passionate about the quality of you audio, it is well worth the effort!
