According to the people who measure these things, the Nikkei Industry Map 2027, Canon has a massive lead in camera sales over its rival Japanese companies.
In fact, Canon even increased its share from 43.2 percent to 45.7 percent and also increased its total annual camera sales from 3.53 million units to 4.5 million units which is a massive increase in anyone books.
In second place is Sony with 24.6% share and somewhat surprisingly, Fujifilm has usurped Nikon into 3rd with 11.8% versus 8.9%.
What surprised me is Panasonic is 5th but only with 4.4% of total market, however this is an increase of shipped units by 150,000 odd. Ricoh is 6th.
Bear in mind these numbers only reflect Japanese manufacturers so for example, Leica and Hasselblad are not included and nor is Sigma which is not a public company – though why that makes a difference I don’t know.
