A Bid to Buy Lens Maker Tamron Outright

Here’s an interesting bit of news, especially if you own a Sony, Canon or Nikon camera.

Lens maker Tamron has had a bid made to buy the company – by Sony no less!

The company said Sony made a non-binding proposal for a series of transactions to turn it into a wholly owned subsidiary but did not disclose the financial details of that proposal.

A Sony spokesperson said, “Sony believes the proposal will enhance Tamron’s corporate value and the interests of its stakeholders”.

Of course it won’t hurt that it puts a finger in the pies of Nikon and Canon in a sideways sort of way too, although Sony already owns nearly 15% of Tamron already.
