I was pleasantly surprised. OK, they aren’t Sennheiser HD 480 Pro standard, my daily headphones of choice, but then for $36 you wouldn’t expect them to be.
But bang for buck, they are quite formidable, they being a new Verbatim TrueSound Bluetooth headset.
Aside from the sound which I’ll get to in a second, the major feature of these cans is the battery life. You can catch the QANTAS flight at Perth Airport direct to Paris in France and still have battery life left. 25 hours Verbatim reckons.
You don’t just get Bluetooth either, with the option of cabled connection and multipoint pairing to two different devices.
Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) is built in as well, and it works quite well in my tests, certainly good enough for that flight to Gay Paree.
Build wise they feel a bit plasticky – but again hey! for 36 bucks – but are quite comfortable to wear with a stretching headband setup that also folds for portability. You don’t get a carry case though.
For the sound quality, you get a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz from 40mm dynamic drivers. Audio quality is very subjective; for me the sound was a little on the bassier side and unlike the less expensive non-ANC Verbatim Truesound Bluetooth headset that has some presets, you cannot change this. Volume was pretty decent though.
If the audio quality is super important to you, try before you buy, with music of your choice is always my suggestion.
Oh, and you get a built-in mic, and charging is via USB-C as is just about everything these days and you get one of those cables too.
