For Sale: BMD URSA Mini 4K (upgraded)

Regular readers may remember Dr David Smith’s story a while back about his adventures upgrading a Blackmagic Design URSA Mini 4K Camera. You can read it here.

Well, due to moving on to other video projects, Dr Smith has decided to sell this beast and whoever snaps it up is getting a mighty camera – and a bargain to boot.

URSA Mini 4K camera

This superb camera kit is in excellent condition with critical enhancements to audio and output performance and data storage. The Mini 4K is the only URSA Mini model to feature a global shutter. All later models have a rolling shutter which is susceptible to rolling shutter artefacts when panning (the dreaded Jello effect). This camera completely avoids rolling shutter issues. The Super 35 sensor has been professionally tested and cleaned and the image quality is stunning!

The kit includes the following extras, all of which are fully interchangeable with later URSA Mini models:

  • BMD Electronic Viewfinder (RRP around AUD $2,300)
  • URSA handgrip
  • Top handle
  • Shotgun mic supports
  • Front handgrip extension arm with twin rosettes

Timelapse and Slow Motion are both available, up to 60fps at 4K and 120fps at Full HD (windowed).

MICROPHONE PREAMPS

External mic performance has been enhanced by fitting a dual Class-A preamp module. This provides 48V phantom power plus level controls to ensure proper recording from external XLR microphones. Mini 4Ks had inadequate pre-amps but this issue is completely solved.

HDMI OUT.

The Mini 4K has two SDI outputs but no other video output terminals. This custom enhanced camera has a BMD SDI-to-HDMI Micro Converter unit mounted on the side plate. HDMI video can then supply a monitor unit or feed into an ATEM Mini Pro or other device. The front SDI feeds the Electronic Viewfinder. The rear SDI feeds the Micro Converter.

DATA STORAGE

The Mini 4K has just two CFast 2 slots for recording. This camera has a CCTech CFast 2.0 to SSD adapter box (RRP $500) and is supplied with one Samsung 870 EVO 1TB V-NAND SSD (RRP $500). This easily handles RAW Lossless video data. Also included is a Zitay 1TB SSD recorder kit (RRP around $600) and a 500GB Pixelflash 3700X CFast 2 card (RRP around $500).

Total storage is 2.5TB, all capable of recording Lossless RAW 4K video with no dropouts.

BATTERIES & CHARGER

This kit comes complete with an IDX VL-4X Dual Sequential Charger (RRP $450) plus six V-Lock 90Wh V-lock batteries (around $250 each) Total RRP around AUD$1,950

TOTAL asking price AUD$4,500

Shotgun mic and power bank not included.
