Quick Tip: Renaming Tracks in DaVinci Resolve

You learn something every day.

When I was using Vegas Pro, one of the things I liked was the ability to meaningfully name video and audio tracks.

When editing, I am stickler for conformity, so for example, I would have separate tracks for background, dialogue, overlay graphics, lower 3rds, direct to camera and so on. I’d also colour code these so I could quickly see what sort of content was on each track.

Having moved to DaVinci Resolve, I knew I could colour code tracks, but the ability to rename them escaped me until yesterday.

Here’s the trick, increase the track height by dragging it, and you’ll see below the V1, V2 or A1, A2 etc, a track name. Simply double click it, and rename name to what you want.
