Another comedy victim to the rubbish bin, sadly.

Following on from my piece yesterday, and keeping on the theme of comedy, the latest to speak out is David Walliams.

Apparently Little Britain which he created and starred in with Matt Lucas has been removed from Netflix, Britbox and BBC iPlayer due to its portrayal of stereotypes.

Famous characters in the series included “the only gay in the village” and Ting Tong, a female Asian au pair, as well as Andy, a person in a wheel chair who regularly faked his disability..

Walliams called the whole thing “exhausting”, describing the so-called “woke” trend of removing and cancelling shows.

He went on to say “‘Things that are explosively funny are often on the edge, aren’t they?’

‘[The issue] is complicated, but you just look at each joke as it comes really.

‘Obviously if you were worried about every single thing you said or did might offend someone, that you wouldn’t be able to say or do anything on stage”.

The BBC said in defence that “times have changed since the show first aired”.

It must be very hard these days to be a comedy writer as every i must be dotted and t crossed to make sure someone, somewhere is not offended. Which I find strange when conversely, on TV and in the movies, violence and sex scenes are getting more and more gratuitous.
