Sometimes the smallest things can solve a huge problem.
Let me ask you a question. How many photos do you have stored on your smartphone right now? A couple of dozen? A couple of hundred? Thousands? I certainly know of people who have hundreds and a few do, have yes, thousands.
I also know of people who one day found that for some inexplicable reason those photos had just vanished. And I have an acquaintance who with hundreds and hundreds of photos on their phone during a once-in-a-lifetime overseas trip had their phone nicked. Oh, and there is the distant relative who had their phone containing cherished memories of a loved one’s funeral stolen. At the wake.
All those memories are gone forever. And in some cases there were photos that had security implications with copies of birth certificates, driver’s licences and even credit cards stored on the phone.
The problem is that natively, getting all this stuff off and stored safely is a bloody nightmare which is why so many people simply don’t bother.
Well, Verbatim reckon they have this problem licked with the 128GB USB-C Go Drive. Simply plug it into the USB-C port of your phone and copy the photo folder to the drive that the phone’s Android operating system sees and external memory. Or any other folder for that matter.
Once finished, unplug it and you’re done. Although I’d probably then plug it into my PC and make a second copy to another drive attached to my computer just in case.
One nice feature is that the connector slides back into the main body to protect it and stop it getting bent.
The method of copying does vary according to your phone. Generally you open the folder containing the files, select all those to be copied, hold down on one of them to start the copying process and then select External Memory as the destination. Your phone’s online manual should have more detail if this way doesn’t work.
Yes, there is a version for iPhones too and of course, this system works equally well on tablets, and even laptops and PCs that have a USB-C port.
For about $60 its well worth the peace of mind if you ask me.

All good except for phones like my Galaxy S-10 5G that has 500GB internal memory, and the new Galaxy S23s that offer up to a terabyte. No choice but to copy files to a large external drive.
